Why do fundamentalist Christians eschew alcohol?

0

The Christians I know have no problem with sensible use of wine, especially at a wedding. The problems come with driving and overindulgence of alcohol. Jesus did indeed turn water into wine at the wedding at Canna and what is more it was noted by others that this was better wine than they had been given at first. Jesus also said to remember him in bread and the cup. The cup would have contained wine so no problem there. The reason for some Christians not taking wine may go back a long way to the days when men took their wages and spent it on alcohol leaving the family without money for food and clothing. This sparked off the Teetotal/Teatotal? idea in the first place, as far as I know.
