Why do friends always play matchmaker?
I think that there could be some egocentricity involved. They want to take some credit for helping you find happiness and be able to say “See, I knew that you guys would be great for each other (I know everything)”. This is really all just leverage so that later (assuming that your new relationship works out) they can hope that you will name your first child after them. Now think about it, if “Jerry (Gerry)” successfully sets up 7 pairs of friends and each pair reproduces and names a child after him/her, then there are now 7 more little J(G)errys. 8 if J(G)erry spawns too. Step 1 in world domination.
