Why do figure skaters retire so early?
Many figure skaters (not necessarily all) reach their peak at a young age, about their late twenties. From then onwards, being the best can be a struggle. For example, one male figure skater(I can’t remember the name) was nicknamed the “Quad King” due to his ability to land many quadriple jumps. However, in later performances he struggled with triple jumps as well as quadriple. Of course, retiring from competitive skating does not mean the end of skating. They can happily choose to leave competition when it feels right for them and can go into exhibitions, shows, tours etc. Some go on to be judges, technical analysts, commentators or quite commonly: coaches. In this sense, skating is a lifelong career for those who do well enough and for those who choose it.
