Why do Females Get Yeast Infections?
Yeast infections can be caused when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area, or when existing healthy bacteria are reduced due to, for instance, the use of antibiotics. Yeast infections can also occur due to injury to the inner vagina from chemotherapy or the use of steroids like prednisone. Excessive sweating and prolonged wetness (from wearing a wet bathing suit, for example) in the vaginal area can cause yeast to proliferate.
