Why do farmers and other rural land managers need to report locusts?
Up-to-date information is critical in the fight against locust outbreaks. Knowing where and when locusts are hatching and the movement of adult locusts equips us with the knowhow to ensure our control measures are targeted, effective and delivered at the best time. It also allows us to measure the effectiveness of our response, make any changes and step up our campaign to deal with any hot spots or serious outbreaks. Again, landholders and farmers are at the frontline in identifying and reporting the presence of locusts on their properties to LHPAs. Farmers may be supported by aerial and on ground surveillance undertaken by Industry & Investment NSW, LHPAs and the APLC.
