Why do environmentalists object to Sunflower’s proposed Holcomb Expansion?
The reason most often cited – and the basis for Secretary Bremby’s decision on the permit – is the 11 million tons of carbon dioxide that the plants would emit each year. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas (GHG). A major source of CO2 emissions comes burning fossil fuels. When too many GHGs accumulate in the atmosphere, they lead to global warming, which contributes to climate change.
