Why do engineering graduates wear an iron ring?

0

The engineering ring represents the engineer’s responsibility to society. The very first rings were fashioned out of iron salvaged from the Quebec Bridge which collapsed in 1907. The tradition of the Iron Ring started in 1925 at U of T Engineering, where students graduating from Engineering received the Iron Ring as a reminder of the moral and societal obligations of the engineer. This tradition is now shared by all the engineering schools in Canada.
