Why Do Dutch People Wear Clogs?
The Dutch wear clogs as it is a historic cultural feature. Much of The Netherlands is covered by sludge and since ancient times, the Dutch have pumped out water from the land to make it nice and dry. But with every so much water pumped into the Sea, a little bit of soil goes with, so that over many thousands of years that the Dutch have been doing this, the land has sunk to well below sea level. In order to walk on top of this sludge, they invented wooden shoes called clogs, so as to walk on the mud.
