Why do dovetail bits come at 7, 8, 9, 12 &, 14 degrees?

Who knows why other dovetail jig manufactures require special angles (and difficult to obtain bits). We chose 8 degrees because it most closely matches the historical 8:1 ratio suggested for hand cut dovetails in hardwood. The 14 degree bits are used almost exclusively with dovetail jigs that only produce half-blind dovetails because the steep angle is slightly more forgiving in the extremely critical depth of cut adjustment on these jigs. This extremely critical adjustment is why most people end up throwing away the cheap jig they purchased because it too difficult to use! Stock thickness variations are not significant with the working jigs produced with the TemplateMasterTM . This is why your working jigs are so easy to use.
