Why do dogs like to stick there head out the window while people drive?
It gets quite hot in a vehicle for a dog, since they cannot sweat. All this translates to added heat on their bodies, an issue which most human being don’t have. The reason a dog tends to stick his/her head out an open window while you drive is because the dog needs its head cooled off so that the rest of its body can cope with the inside heat. They pant instead of sweating, but if they don’t have an open window to stick their head out of in a hot car, they’re just breathing in hot air all over again. So they take benefit of the cooling in the air that happens when the air is pushed to the side by the car. And if they can’t do that, they run the risk of heat exhaustion. So next time your dog(s) puts its head out the window, let it. It’s just trying to keep its cool!
