Why do / did we ban clothing being made from cat and dog fur?
Those are domestic, companion animals… animals that are very easy to befriend, and have been made docile and complacent with man over the course of thousands of years. It is betrayal on a species level to do harm to animals that trust… and many people understand that, and many do not. Other animals that are domesticated were done so with the sole purpose of reaping their flesh and fur as a commodity. This is wrong, as well, but these animals are “livestock” … different from domestic companion animals in how they’ve been bred and treated for thousands of years. Dogs have been chosen for their breeding to produce myriad behaviors that we enjoy, and cats have been kept around as an effective measure of vermin control, both for so long that we are able to communicate on a primal level with them. Therefore, it is logical and sensible to extend our mercy and protection unto them, and respect the wishes of fellow humans who do not want to see them harmed. Cast it aside if you want to, b
