Why do Christians venerate a Torture/Execution Device?

It doesn’t bother me at all. We are so far removed from the practice of crucifixion that it isn’t repulsive, but it was used by early Christians who had personal exposure to the practice. I imagine that for them, it was even more of a powerful symbol of the great sacrifice Christ made us us and his victory over death. It was a faith that was not watered-down or sweetened up. If any other method had been used, I would honor that object as well (a very common R&S drinking question!). Fortunately, the cross is a symbol with its own symmetrical beauty and it has been turned into a lovely thing, literally and figuratively. <*)))>< (another symbol -- try kissing that!

Christians tend to equate suffering with forgivness and purity. It’s part of the fear and guilt they use to control people. They also tortured hundreds of thousands of people in the name of god to get them to confess to heresy and witchcraft.

1. I think we are supposed to venerate the dude one the device. 2. You aren’t supposed to french kiss the cross! just a peck is sufficient!
