Why do Christians turn a blind eye to the History of their denomination?
First of all I don’t think alot of Christians actually KNOW about the history of their religion – in the context I assume you mean…the Crusades, massive twisting of scripture, corruption of the church… So it’s not really turning a blind eye because many people aren’t aware. But those that do are either embarrassed, angry or not wanting to associate with that terrible interpretation of the faith. Even today, some churches use the bible completely out of context for their own means, advance the church with immorality and do more hurt than good. Ok – not as bad as slaying millions of people – but the same root ignorance. Many Christians today, like myself, are totally aware of the past – but don’t want to associate just because of the broad sweep of the label ‘Christianity’. And it’s the same with churches today – sometimes I sit in disbelief when I hear about what some churches are up and then question how I can be under the same ‘banner’ as them!!!
