Why do Christians obey some Biblical mandates, but ignore others?
I have to say that this question seems rather judgmental of Christians. You’re asking a question about what Christians do or do not obey in the Bible, but that gives the impression that you are not a Christian and that you are very familiar with ALL Biblical mandates. I agree with all those who said that Christians are human, and also that many customs in the Old Testament are now considered to be the Old Covenant, and that the New Testament speaks of the New Covenant. Therefore, Christians are obviously going to strive to obey what Jesus says – and that is the New Testament – yet some things Jesus said in the New Testament supercede things written about in the Old Testament. And again, Christians do not claim that they are perfect or holier-than-thou – it is critics of Christianity that claim that Christians are like that. Many Christians even say “Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven”, meaning that the Christian belief is that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, b
Christians are not the only ones to ignore and interpret differently ones mandates. To be human is to make mistakes and/or to question or even disagree or challenge the mandates set by not only our chosen faith but the laws presented to us in our society. Humans are thankfully not robots, and as such Biblical and legal mandates are often ignored or interpreted differently by each member of our society. Answerbag, even provides an example, of sorts; many different spirtual beliefs and just as many opinions on the same topic. One final point, is that in terms of Biblical mandates, the church has also evolved in its interpretation of them, and some have changed as time goes on. Change wouldn’t occur (for the better or worse) if someone didnt ignore or challenge the present mandates.
