Why do Christian priests usually target male children?
I believe you are mistaken. All the evidence suggests that a tiny minority of Christian pastors/priests target children. For example, over a long period, the records indicate that only about 4% of Catholic priests made some type of sexual advance to people up to 18 and prepubescent cases (pedophilia) are only about 2%. I recall reading Episcopalian Phillip Jenkins, after studying 20 years worth of records, noting that in one Diocese (Chicago) but for a single pedophile the pedophile crisis talked about in the media would have lacked pedophiles. In that case a priest molested his niece. You are conflating that problem with the Catholic Church’s abuse scandal (typically described as a pedophile crisis even though the victims were mainly post pubescent) where an all male priesthood typically dealt with young males being seminarians and alter boys. Therefore priests who were attracted to boys had access to adolescent boys and young seminarians. Whether this meant that gay men went into the
As with many things this is a blemish on the face of THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. The priests of the Catholic Church are not permitted to marry and must take a vow of Celibacy. Some of this has to do with the fact that they are normal human beings and desire to have sex too. Some of the priests are closet homosexuals and as such they can’t be religious and have homosexual relationships. They turn to the priesthood in order to keep themselves from sinning. Not all priests are homosexual and most of them feel they have been called to the priesthood by God.
