Why Do Children Learn Languages?

children pick up languages very fast up until the age of 13 and they can learn the accent with no effort but past that age it gets more difficult.

Do you mean why or how? The answer to “why” is to communicate, and the reason for teaching foreign languages to children is that knowing a language (or several) in addition to one’s own is a valuable skill and that the younger one is, the easier it usually is to learn new languages. So the “how” part is that children pick up language by hearing and imitating the speech of the people around them. I’ve read that the brain center that facilitates language learning is most active in childhood and actually shuts down about the time most of us have the opportunity to begin studying one.

Younger children learn languages more quickly and more naturally than teenagers and adults.
