Why do certain protein IDs appear in GRASP with multiple suffixes?

0

When a gene gives rise to more than one protein product, each protein product is indicated with a different suffix (ie: PA, PB , etc). We observed that in some cases, two protein products coded by the same gene may show an identical amino acid sequence, but different IDs (eg: CG12428-PA and CG12428-PB). This typically happens when different transcript products of the same gene code for identical protein products.
