I agree with you, it is an intellectually dishonest and banal argument. Until the last fifty years, or so, there hasn’t been any significant flows of foreigners into this country since the Norman Conquest. You can’t compare a mature modern consolidated nation state with the way it was hundreds of years ago, and then argue that historical flows of people that gave us Great Britain has to continue into the future. During that long period of time we have developed our own unique culture, which has given a great deal to the world. We must also point out to those who keep using this discredited argument, that conquests and invasions are not the same as lawful immigration. Moreover, even as regards legal and illegal immigration over the last fifty years, no Government has ever asked the British people whether they wanted their island flooding with immigrants.
