Scripture contains neither the word trinity nor an expressly formulated doctrine of the trinity. The doctrine did not take shape until late in the fourth century. Gnostic teacher Valentinus was the first to devise the notion of three entities. Trinitarian creeds were created in reaction to disagreements over the nature of Christ. Sabellianism taught that the father, Son and Holy spirit are one and the same. The difference was merely verbal to describe different aspects of a single being. Sabellius was excommunicated for heresy in Rome in 220. In 325, the council of Nicae adopted the Nicene creed describing Christ as being one with the Father. After more than fifty years of violent and bloody debate, the creed was recognized as the hallmark of orthodoxy, and was further developed into a formula of three persons. It is recorded that the bishops were forced to use this terminology, which is not found in Scripture. The original Biblical phrases the bishops preferred were claimed by the Arians to be capable of being interpreted in a heretical sense . Trinitarianism is a man-made doctrine instituted by Roman pagans centuries after the foundation of the original Church. I encourage you to research this topic out for yourself. There are many valuable and historical sources and references available.
