Why do Catholic/Anglican clergy wear flamboyant pompous robes yet Jesus Christ wore ordinary clothing?
I don’t see their clothes as flamboyant at all. I’ve looked through church catalogs before. The robes aren’t that expensive. Plus they’re kind of itchy. They’re hot and uncomfortable and a low thread count. They really are quite simple. Don’t mistake flamboyant and pompous simply for something that sticks out for looking very different. I think that’s what you’re doing here. Lady Gaga’s clothes are flamboyant. Rappers’ 100,000 dollar jewel encrusted chains with their own names on them are pompous. A priest’s robes are just obvious amongst the t-shirts, pants, and skirts of a congregation.
