Why do Care Assistants in the UK put up with low wages?
I’m sorry but speaking as a trained Nurse I can tell you quite clearly that Care Assistants DO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE SAME AS WE DO, whether in the NHS or the private sector! I am not doubting their work is important and is undervalued and underpaid but you cannot liken 3-5 years of Degree study and technical training in a range of specialised health care fields from Renal, Surgical, Medical, Cardiac Care, ICU, to Mental Health, Learning Disability and Midwifery, along side the stuff we do on a dialy basis, stuff that simply isn’t possible to do with skill, safely or legally with a mere NVQ 2. If you want to get Trained Nurses on your side then don’t insult us and don’t represent your case in a very misguided fashion. You can only tell me you do the same as a trained Nurse when you have even the slightest idea of my full role and responsibilities and not just your observed view, which when you have the axe to grind you do, will never be truthful or represnt the story as it is.
