Why do Canadians seem to love humor that is inspired by the absurdity of everyday life?
I’m not sure. The United States is all about glamour and celebrity and reality TV. It’s stuff that happens here. There’s money and there’s glamour. In Canada, it’s just not for us. We don’t have that. Some of the biggest Canadian actors will walk down the street and no one knows who they are. That’s a big influence on us. We just look for the humor and fun in everyday normal stuff. It’s funny, I started watching The Kids in the Hall in fifth grade, and I didn’t get that they were being absurd. My brothers and I just knew it was funny. We’d laugh our asses off. Now that I’m a comic, I really have to bow down to these guys. They’re so ballsy and so funny. The best night of my life, well, it started out as one of the worst, but I was performing in Vegas, at this comedy festival. It was less than a year ago.
