Why do burned DVDs pixelate and freeze when played?

The DVD’s I’ve burned seem to play fine on a commercial DVD player for a while, then start to pixelate and freeze. They seem to play fine on my PowerBook and iMac. I replaced my home DVD player with a higher quality one and this still happens! The DVD’s I’ve burned were home movies edited in iMovie HD and then imported into and burned in iDVD. Any help would be appreciated.
