The UK police are very, very well practised at riot control with Football violence & the nightly rampages of Northern Ireland being the testing ground for tactics & ideas for the last 50 years. The British police just hemmed in the protesters, let the rent-a-mob anarchists let off stream & basically contained loads of noise & violence to property to a very small area indeed. With a few broken windows & damage to a few vehicles being far cheaper then a chaotic rampage through the streets of the capital with the very real danger of the more local lads venting their ( very real) anger, & lets face it, ‘working class’ riots are always far more brutal, unpredictable & frightening then any organised hi-jack of a legitimate protest. The amount of damage done in total was probably no less then the sum total of damage done in a small market town on a Friday night. The police probably think, all told it was a job well done.
