Why do British Army Regiments move every two years?
We no longer move as frequently as it costs too much money. Arms plotting as it was known was supposed to have stopped totally after the recent amalganmations, however it is impossible to stop this completely as there are two battalions posted at anyone time in Cyprus and they are rotated every two to three years, this in turn causes other battalions to move. For the record Limahl is talking cr@p! Edit Neil T is fundamentally correct in his answer and for the majority of infantry Battlions this will be the case. However as I have already outlined Cyprus is the fly in the ointment as far as this subject is concerned, at present the battalions here will rotate between 2-3 years depending on operational tempo. The only other major moves is the draw down from Germany which started earlier last year with the move of 4th Armoured Bde to Catterick from Osnabruck.
