Why do boats going to Rottnest Island charge “landing fees”?
All commercial charter boats are required to pay the Rottnest Island Authority a fee for every passenger on every journey. This money is used to fund the conservation and preservation of Rottnest Island. The cost is approximately $13 per person and many boats will charge you this fee on top or their normal charter hire costs.
