Why do bees die after they sting someone?
The fact that bees die after they sting someone or something, is partially myth. Only ‘female honeybees’ die after the sting ‘only mammals’! Any other bee would not die, not even a male honeybee, and the bees only die if they sting a mammal. This is because the thickness of our skin is what causes the abdomen to tear, bees can sting other insects without any personal damage. Anyway, as was stated, the female bees die because when they sting a mammal, the thick skin holds on to the stinger and a hole rips in the bees abdomen.
The reason honeybees die when they sting is that their stingers are equipped with barbs similar to those on fish hooks. When they sting something they are not able to retract their stingers because of the barbs. If they try to fly off or are swatted away their stinger, poison gland, and part of their internal organs are ripped out of them. Checkout reference.
