My experience in the past has been that most architects think about the asthentics of a building before they consider the function. Maybe you should get yourself an architectural engineer. However those are probably more expensive and usualy working on sky scrapers and such. Set designers also do a good job sometimes at designing a spacious layout that fits function with good visual apeal. On the other hand, a design consideration for living rooms verses kitchens and bathrooms is the amount of people they contain at once. Most private bathrooms are not going to have five to ten people hanging out together eating popcorn. And kitchens, while can have more than one person at a time, are not going to wish for ten either. A second consideration for designing a kitchen is to strike a balance between being to large and being to small.
