Why do apartment complexes require tenants to have renters insurance?
The owners of complexes buy their own insurance policies for liability and to cover the building and personal property they own. These policies do not cover any of the tenant’s property or liability. They make these requirements to ensure that the tenants don’t mistakenly believe that the policy of the apartment complex owner covers the tenants property and liability exposure.
