Why do anesthesiologists get paid a ridiculously high salary?

Because we hold lives in our hands every day. We don’t get paid as much as you might think, and we work pretty darn hard for every penny. I didn’t get a real job until I was 30 years old – until that time, I was training. That’s a LONG FREAKING TIME to be in school. While you’re blissfully unaware of what’s going on during your surgery, it’s your anesthesiologist that watches every breath, every heartbeat, and every drop of blood that’s shed by your surgeon, and keeps that surgeon from killing you.

Well first off they have to go to medical school, which are very hard to get into these days. They also need that money for their malpractice insurance which can cost up to $80,000 a year. Their job is also very risky and requires highly skilled people, and that is why they get paid accordingly.
