Why do all the conductivity maps use the same colour scales?

0

A. PENSERV has interpreted conductivity from a soil science perspective and the colour scales used in EM surveys reflect this background. For a given site, a colour scale is selected that will characterize the range of conductivity data at 4 depths, thus ensuring that all the maps are comparable. Because the data for all 4 depths is collected simultaneously, the relationship between conductivity and increasing soil depth can be delineated. Even within a project, several sites can be mapped at the same conductivity scale to make it easier for the client to compare the relative impacts between sites. Using a fixed conductivity contour interval presents its own challenges though and we have found it necessary to create a wide range of colour scales in order to more closely bracket the soil conductivity ranges according to the limits of the data.
