Why do actual class sizes vary from building to building relative to the average?

0

Our four K-4 schools vary in enrollment and in the number of sections per grade. Because our K-4 schools have fewer sections of a grade, even small changes in enrollment might result in a new section being added at a specific grade level. As a result, class sizes, even in the same grade, will vary from building to building. This is the reason the District maintains class size “guidelines” instead of an absolute minimum and maximum. The guideline is a target average that helps us define where we need to adjust sections or closely watch enrollment. In grades 5-8 enrollment changes are spread over a larger number of sections so there is less variability.
