Why do a lot of people have problems with tattoos and heavily tattooed people?

I have at present three tattoos. One of them is a rather large sleeve type tattoo that as yet is still to be finished (goes from my shoulder to my elbow). Last week at my midwife appointment, my midwife made a comment when she was taking my blood pressure that it wasn’t very feminine of me to have such a tattoo. Now, while I am all for people having their opinions tattoos are a personal choice and should not determine whether one person is one way or another. Tattoos are something that the majority of people spend a lot of time thinking over before they are committed to the body. Some people I know wait years looking for the perfect design. But each individual tattoo is an expression of that person … as an individual …. and everyone who has one should NOT be lumped in as one big stereotype. Tattoos were probably once associated with those on the “wrong side of the tracks” and that is probably where the negative connotations came from but society has moved on since then, or at least
