Why didn the WGA agree to early negotiations in November 2006?

0

While Company spokespersons have been quoted in the Trades saying the WGA “refused” to negotiate early, that decision has yet to be made. Were we willing to negotiate over 12 months prior to contract expiration as requested by the AMPTP? No. There are constitutional procedures to meet prior to the commencement of any negotiation, including appointment of your Negotiating Committee and the formulation of demands. WGA elected leadership also decided not to begin negotiations 12 months early because there is no strategic advantage for the WGA, nor have the Companies offered a meaningful incentive to do so.
