“When you change your template only the entries page gets updated instantly. Your older entries get put into a queue for a program that runs on the server that will go through and update your older entries templates one by one, that’s why it takes a little longer. It is done this way to avoid the server getting overwhelmed.” -taken from the diaryland FAQ pages.
