She did this because it was an option that was left available to her. You’ve probably heard this 1,000,000 times so I’ll make it 1,000,001. You shouldn’t keep your geckos on sand, it’s a bad substrate. Leopard geckos lay several clutches a year so fatten your female up and get her ready for another go. Last year my females laid 3 clutches each, 2 eggs per clutch. Get rid of the sand and use newspaper as the enclosure substrate. Place your nesting box in the enclosure with a thick layer of moist vermiculite in the bottom of the nesting box. Seeing this is now the only suitable place for digging in the enclosure, it will be where she lays her eggs. ADD: W B, I don’t recommend reptile carpet. Young geckos can easily snag a toe-nail and pull their toe off. Because it’s re-usable (they defecate on it) it holds bacteria even if you wash it. As for sand, I’m not simply repeating what I’ve heard. I learned this lesson the hard way and will not be swayed. Sand is not their natural habitat anywa
