Why didn Jordan join Dream Theater back in 94? Did Dream Theater want him to join back then?
MP: Jordan would have been our first choice. But he was also working with the Dixie Dregs at the time, so he had the choice of going with us or the Dregs. At that time we were still very heavy tourers – the Images and Words tour was pretty relentless and the Awake tour had a schedule that was looking very much like that. He wasn’t ready to leave his family and go on the road for that long time – none of us had families yet – so it didn’t make sense for him at that point in his life. We were sorry that he wasn’t able to join because his talents are obviously incredible and he would have been a great addition to the music, but it was just a matter of the circumstance not being right.
