That’s the question I asked myself while reading Seth H. Weintraub’s provocative review of the new touch tablet that he asserts out-shines the iPhone and the Zune in several key ways. The answer surprised me and gave me a bit of nostalgia for my trips to the Los Angeles piece of Americana, the Silent Movie Theatre on Fairfax. It turns out that YouTube allows its users to upload whatever they want. Sometimes, thanks to DCMA notices, copyright infringing material is brought down. But the Archos was censored by something a bit more mundane and less malefic than one might guess. Yep! Like the old movie reels of yore, which had a limit of 11 minutes per reel, YouTube restricts the videos you create and share to 10 minutes and under. Really? Google can’t allow a 15 minute video? Or one that’s 13 minutes and 15 seconds, like the Archos video appears to have been when uploaded? I guess not! At Brief Episode we’re in favor of brevity, and it appears so is YouTube.
