Why did you name the film after the Joey Ramone song?
“There’s a scene in the club where the girl has this pivotal decision to make in her life about whether she’s going to go or not, and she stands there and the Joey Ramone quote is just above her. I thought that’s a great title. We had a title and it wasn’t working and I thought, ‘I’ll deal with that later’, and then I was going through some stuff and I saw it and I thought, ‘Oh my God, that does everything – it just says it’.” Was it tough to make the change from actor to director? “It’s really tough, because with this particular film I had to go and raise the money for it. It’s a total immersion in what you’re doing. As an actor you come into a job a little late – people have made decisions, the sets have been built. Then you leave the job early when everyone goes and puts the music on it and edits it. This was the total package for me.
