Why did william shakespeare write a play for his dead son?
No hard evidence that ‘Hamlet’ was written for his dead son. Maybe that Shakespeare chose the name based on his dead son. However, if you read the introduction to the Arden edition of any of Shakespeares’s plays, you will find that although he was a fantastic wordsmith, he couldn’t come up with any original ideas for his plays (then again, this wasn’t expected at the time – due to people being illiterate: they expected a ‘familiar’ story that they could follow.) Hope this helps.
