Why did we change the Technology Coordinator position to the Technology Resource Teacher position?
A. In the spring of 2003, the Simonds Foundation voted to create a position that would provide technology services to children and staff. An independent contract was developed, the cost of which was paid for by the Foundation. The contract was renewed in 2003, and 2004. In 2005 the District rejected independent contracts across the District due in large part to Union related issues as well as issues stemming from the No Child Left Behind Act which requires all those involved with teaching children must have a teaching credential. The only way for Simonds to continue to provide unique technology curriculum programming to the Faculty and Students was to have the Foundation fund the resource teaching job utilizing a fully credentialed teacher. The Technology Resource Teacher role is greatly expanded over the previous technology coordinator role.
