Why did two teenage girls jump to their death from Erskine Bridge?
Neve Lafferty and Georgia Rowe were determined girls. They made their plans with great care. Early on Sunday night they put on their pyjamas and told care staff in the Good Shepherd Centre in Bishopton they planned to watch television in their bedrooms. Then they changed back into their clothes, sneaked out of the residential unit that had been their home for the past eight weeks, and walked two and a half miles to the Erskine Bridge. It was a dark autumn night. The route they chose is unknown and locals speculate they may have crossed the nearby M8 motorway and cut through the grounds of Erskine Golf Club to avoid being seen. If they went the long way, it was a winding walk along the edges of narrow, unlit country roads. Pedestrians normally access the bridge through the grounds of Erskine Hospital. They may have cut straight on to the road: motorists saw them walking up the middle of the bridge around 8.30pm. They crossed the road to the edge, looking down the Clyde towards Helensbur
