Why Did They Think Bombing Hiroshima Would End The War?
There were multiple reasons behind dropping the atom bomb on Hiroshima. One of the reasons was that the US wanted to be stronger than Soviet Union in its political position. The Soviet Union agreed to fight against Japan during the Yalta Conference. The US wanted to conclude the war and force Japan to surrender before anything could be done by the Soviet Union. Another reason of the bombing was that Hiroshima had a lot of troops and military hubs that had not yet been damaged. It was thought that destroying the army would make the Japanese surrender and conclude the war. Besides all these reasons, US also wanted to test the effectiveness of their new weapon and Hiroshima seemed like a suitable place for the bombing.
