Why did they kill so many people in tiananmen square?
While this is blatantly quite wrong (and I completely disagree with their actions), you do have to take into account the view of the government. Students across China were walking out of lessons, and 3 men were arrested for defacing government property. All of this escalated with the negative portrayal of the protests by the Chinese government, and the demonstrators’ angry response continued to make the situation worse and worse; the government saw this as a downward spiral, and decided to take decisive action before China was reduced to riots, which is interesting considering the Chinese government _encouraged_ the students to behave in almost exactly the same way during the Cultural Revolution. It is also interesting to note that the Chinese Government told its citizens that the students were shot because the students had been killing people.
