Why did the winnipeg general strike happen?
If you are a serious student, I recommend going to the library for a bit of research. I’ve not done that myself but now that you’ve posed the question, I intend to do that myself. It was a time of great passion. There were machine guns on the street and they WERE used against the workers. I beleive that four of the strike leaders were sentenced to penitentary terms and from there, while incarcerated, won election to the Manitoba Legislature. They were not released. Jim B. following has given you one view. A seemingly ideological one I must say. There are others. There was a lot more involved than the threat of “communism” which he Jim seems to accept as the only reason people would go to the streets. Again, do a bit of library research. Do your own determination as to the reasons for those events. Become enlightened on your own. You are quite capable of doing this.
