Why did the White Sox not get Coco Crisp for David Aardsma?
— Delwin, Orlando, Fla. Aardsma had been designated for assignment and was sitting on a 6.40 ERA from his first season with the White Sox. Getting two low-level Minor League pitching prospects — albeit with some upside — seems a little above fair trade value for the right-hander. With all due respect to Aardsma, pulling off a straight up trade of Aardsma for Crisp would earn Williams a victory lap around Grant Park. I know the White Sox supposedly were waiting for the Santana trade situation to play out in order to pursue Crisp if the Red Sox didn’t use him or Jacoby Ellsbury to acquire one of the game’s best pitchers. But I think the White Sox are set in the outfield. They also instantly improved by four or five games with Santana moving to the National League, leading to Williams’ entertaining quote of “Good riddance.” This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
