Haven’t made the jump to Microsoft’s Vista–or Windows 7–yet? After April 14th, you’ll have to wave goodbye to free Windows incident support, design changes, and warranty support for XP Home and Professional and Office 2003. Microsoft is also ending free bug fixes that are not directly related to security issues. Assistance for these apps enters the “extended” phase, requiring customers to plunk down cash for software assistance. Security updates will be issued for free on these apps until August 4, 2014, so you’ve still got some time to make the jump to Windows 8. April 14th also marks the retirement of Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
