Why did the Volgograd Refinery join LUKOIL, rather than any other oil company?
Our plant has been refining crude from Western Siberian fields, above all sweet Shaimsk crude, since 1975. We have maintained a good partnership with the oilmen of Uray for many years. It was quite logical, therefore, that in 1991 the Refinery’s management decided that it should join the then still government-owned Langepas-Uray-Kogalymneftegaz concern, which was the basis on which LUKOIL was created. Time has shown that this was the right decision. Q: What basic changes occurred in the Refinery’s operations after its transformation into JSC LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka? A: It should be emphasized that the Refinery’s transformation in 1993 into JSC LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepere-rabotka was a rebirth for it. Since then, large-scale work has been under way in intensively retooling the Refinery. Given the fierce competition on the world market for petroleum products, the Refinery’s management undertook urgent measures to improve the process technology for petroleum products, upgrade their
