Why did the US support Chinese nationalists in the chinese civil war?

1. Communism was viewed as a threat to democracy, and so the United States lent support to the Nationalist Party, of course thinking that they would be victorious. 2. The Nationalists were also engaged in a war with Japan at the time, so the army of Chiang Kai-Shek was severely weakened at the end of WWII, making it almost a clean sweep for the Communist Army. In addition, the peasants of China were fed up with how they were treated by elites, landlords, etc. 3. Beginning with steel production, the backyard furnaces that were required of the Chinese peasants produced tremendously low-grade steel, hardly worth anything. Agricultural production didn’t work out so well due to drought, and also the government rule to plant seeds even deeper than normal (if you plant seeds too deep, they won’t grow at all, the earth chokes them).
