Why did the US abstain in the UN ceasefire resolution vote?

0

The US government basically support Israel and have done for a very long time. Voting for the ceasefire would appear to be a snub against Israel from the US and therefore make relations between both countries a little strained. I believe the US government also contribute to the funding of Israel’s military capability. Ideally the US would have voted ‘against’ the ceasefire but this would have in turn strained relations between themselves and other countries. Abstain was the option for them.
